Frequently Asked Questions

General Information

What is Kalibrate™?

Kalibrate™ is a cognitive training application designed to enhance arousal regulation and attention. It combines a Multi-Object Tracking (MOT) game and guided breathing exercises with a unique, multi-modal Visual-Haptic-Audio (VHA) stimulation system to train your brain's ability to focus and regulate stress.

How does the training work?

The core exercise involves tracking multiple moving targets among distractors. As you play, the Adaptive Difficulty Manager (ADM) adjusts the game's challenge level in real-time based on your performance. This ensures you are always training at your optimal cognitive load. The interactive tracking game is calibrated to progress you toward a cognitive state recepitve to a breathing exercise by varying factors related to perceptual complexity, perceptual predictability, working memory load, cue-utilization demands, reward feedback, and more.

Features & Technology

What is VHA Stimulation?

VHA stands for Visual-Haptic-Audio stimulation. It is a synchronized sensory experience designed to "nudge" brain activity in a particular direction, rhythmically.

  • Visual: Rhythmic pulsing of the game elements.

  • Haptic: Gentle vibrations that match the visual rhythm.

  • Audio: Binaural beats and isochronic tones to promote focus or relaxation.

What are Binaural Beats?

Binaural beats are an auditory illusion perceived when two different pure-tone sine waves are presented [continously] to a listener dichotically (one through each ear). They are used in Kalibrate™ to encourage specific brainwave states associated with focus and relaxation. Headphones are required to enable binaural mode. The default audio mode uses isochronic tones, which are discrete audio pulses that do not rely on an auditory illusion to produce the desired perceived rhythm. For either mode, headphones are recommended for the best experience.

Is the app safe for everyone?

Epilepsy Warning: Kalibrate™ includes rhythmic visual stimulations (flashing lights/patterns) which may trigger seizures for people with photosensitive epilepsy. If you have a history of epilepsy or seizures, please consult a doctor before use. Medical Disclaimer: Kalibrate™ is a wellness tool, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.

Account & Subscriptions

Is Kalibrate™ free to use?

Kalibrate™ offers a free trial period so you can experience the benefits of the training. After the trial, you can continue to use a limited version of Kalibrate™, free of charge. This limited version restricts use to one session a day, limits the available session durations, and does not offer any progress or achievement tracking features. Those who wish to upgrade to a Kalibrate™ Pro subscription may do so on a monthly or yearly basis. We also offer a lifetime unlock option for a one-time purchase, giving you permanent access to all features and future updates.

How do I restore my purchase?

If you have previously purchased Kalibrate™ and reinstalled the app, you can restore your purchase by going to the Settings menu and tapping "Restore Purchase."

Troubleshooting

I can't hear the audio/binaural beats.

  1. Check your volume: Ensure your device volume is turned up.

  2. Silent Mode: Make sure your device is not in Silent Mode (the switch on the side of your iPhone), as this may mute game audio.

  3. Headphones: We strongly recommend using headphones for the VHA system to work effectively.

Haptics (vibrations) are not working.

  1. System Settings: Go to your iPhone Settings > Sounds & Haptics and ensure "System Haptics" is enabled.

  2. App Settings: Check the settings menu within Kalibrate™ to ensure haptics are toggled on.

The game is too hard/too easy.

Kalibrate™ uses an Adaptive Difficulty Manager that learns from your performance. If the game feels too difficult or too easy, just keep playing! The system will automatically adjust parameters like ball speed, target count, and color similarity to match your current skill level.
